DC fans do not seem to be the only ones who love Jerome’s wild antics on Gotham. Jerome who is played by Cameron Monaghan has been the city’s pseudo Joker for a few years and this character is now making his debut by this spring. When a trailer for new episodes had been released online, Star Wars’ star, Mark Hamill had decided to weigh in:
“Can’t wait! Cameron Monaghan is KILLING IT as #TheJoker & that’s NO JOKE,” Hamill had written on Twitter. Although Jerome is not technically the Crown Prince of Crime, this review is surely one to cherish.
While the audiences know Hamill from his role of Luke Skywalker, comic book fans were in love with the actor’s work as the Joker. He voiced this character in many movies and video games. The actor’s take on this character has become very iconic and has spanned over many years, and people now consider the actor to be the quintessential Joker.
There has been a debate as to whether or not Jerome will become the Joker in the prequel series. The cast and producers have been adamant about the very fact that this character is not the Joker but would lay the groundwork for a Joker to come.
“He’s not the Joker, that’s all I’m saying,” David Mazouz said. “He’s definitely the inspiration for the Joker and the way that the Joker comes into the show is one of the most brilliant things Gotham has ever done.”
In a recent tweet which has been deleted, Monaghan had added on to Mazouz’ comments and said that the introduction of the Joker was different and new.
“I can confirm. What we’ve cooked up and discussed is something not to be missed. It’s a twist on familiar themes, both new and old echoes of the mythos. Something entirely new, but we believe true to the spirit of the show as well as the comics. Proud I got to be a part of it.”
Gotham will return with many more new episodes on Thursday, March 1 at 8pm ET on FOX.
